Ressurrection at last…

NASHVILLE PUSSY-GET SOME-

After a well earned vacation it´s time to put the pedal to the metal and bring you a fresh start of the second season of year two with this great blog. Originated from Atlanta US, this fourpiece brawlers set of their career in the late ´90s. Mixing a furious attitude towards Hard,Blues,Southern, punk rock it can only mean one thing. No hold bars and full throttle rock´n´roll. Ressurrection at last for rock’ n’ roll!!

This their fourth studio album released in 2005, finds the path of which direction the band is moving and this is a true master class contender in this genre. Blain Cartwright brings the recognizabel vocals and add the seasoning this Music needs. The blistering guitarriffs by Ruyter Suys just adds up the equation. This high fuelled couple never stops to make the most of good plain rock material but at the high end of the scale. This is a very good record!

Nashville Pussy

Whatabout the drummer, Jeremy Thompson?? This fellow both got an impeccable drive together with true attitude towards the songs. The technical skills are avarage and the lack of Dynamics just don´t inflict on the record. This is a harddriven album and a fine piece of drumming in that sense. The hit ratio och timing is just like a right handed fist in your face and I like it!! A Pleasure to listen to!! 🙂

If your in for Hard/Blues/Southern/Punk rock Music with American flavour, this is the album for you. It takes no prisoners and delivers the best Atlanta got to offer in this Genre. Great albums are out there for no Money at all, even reissues!! This is the perfect party record for all of you who agree´s with Blair Cartwright;

“Write my will in lines of cocaine
Baptize myself in whiskey
Take every pill that’ll fit in my mouth
And see where that’ll get me”

A splendid piece of party-lyrics! 🙂

German efficiency

ELECTRIC SUN-EARTHQUAKE-

After leaving Scorpions, Uli Jon Roth put together this trio with exceptional musicians, not only himself but the -God sent to man- drummer Clive Edwards. This, the only album for Mr. Edwards, just crack you up in a new demensional travel only few guitarist could endeavour. This album is a true milestone in German efficiency and it never fail to deliver.

The production is timetypical of the late 70´s but here you also got brilliant vocals, a guitarsound to die for and the Dynamics are just…perfect! As this is Another direction for Uli Jon Roth there is no way to make a comparison to his erlier work because this is just plain better than anything else he´d achieved Before. A Very good album!

Electric sun

Whatabout the drummer, Clive Edwards?? As you already have predicted, this is one of the great drummer´s from Great Britain. The solid striking abilities together with perfect timing and just that “precognizion” way of hitting with perfect Dynamics gives you  one of the reasons to buy this album. The drive is laid back on purpose due to which song you are listening to and yet in every tuneyou will hear Mr Edwards explode in technical eargasm´s that just brings that BIG smile to your face. This is one of the best performances ever recorded. This the way to play drums, not hitting them….. 🙂

So, if you´re in for Hard/Space/Prog/Kraut rock with a Heavy seasoning of “Hendrix spice” you probably already got this album. For you newcomer´s out there this is the benchmark to prove yourself in the Genre. Great copies are out there for a descent buck but the tip is to go for the vinylfair experience. To find this precious gem is just pure joy. Almost as good as a Cold beer on the beach in the summer.. bikini´s, the ocean and Music…what more is there to ask for?? This album hits the Nail in one stroke!

Stoner remedy approval…

HAIABUSA-HAIABUSA-

This Swedish trio got together in 2003 and released their sole album in 2006. As there are many people out in this World missing the true stoner giant´s like: Black Sabbath and perhaps Jane´s Addiction well, bottle up because the Stoner remedy is here and this time it is approved!!

As an unkown and perhaps private pressing, this is one of those timeless recordings that could have been released last year, because here we aim for Heavy distortion, laid back drumming and crystal clear great vocals. This is one of the best albums in this genre that not display to much “Power” or “distortion” influenced by the Contemporary timeline. This is truly as good as it was when it was released…A very impressive job!! 🙂

Haiabusa

Whatabout the drummer, Sir “Mattebusa” Westman?? This is just the perfect match for this outfit. Sweet laidback  drumming with great timing and crystal-clear striking abilities. The technical skills and the Dynamics are all fine but the style of Music does not promote individual showoff skills. It is a pleasure to listen to this drummer because the consistancy together with the bass never makes the performance boring. A Very good effort! A+ playing!!

If you miss the giants of Stoner/Heavy/Prog rock Music you really need to check this one out. Great melodies without overperforming and the mystery sorrounding the band just adds to the flavor. This is a really good album and not even Close to the recognizion it should have got back in the day.

This is a hard record to find but if you do, it is Worth the pricetag and I only found it on CD. This is just that record that suites all kind´s of moments. Driving, partying or just to enjoy on high volume! Splendid!

And we have lift-off…

MORLY GREY-THE ONLY TRUTH-

This american outfit came together in the late ´60s and this, their sole album, was released in 1972. A sturdy mix of Heavy/Prog/psychadelic rock will surely set your turntable on fire! This is some very nasty stuff for those with their mind set on exploration and perhaps an open mind towards medicinal herbs. This is truly a contender for the Apollo program for that journey towards an unkown galaxy…Gentlemen, we have lift-off….. 🙂

The production is timetypical with a great vocal track and sweet, raw sounding guitar and that steady bass with a great driven rhythmsection at the back. The Roller Brothers fits the outfit like a glove and there are few low water marks on the album. Perhaps there is a bit of uncertainty in which way to approach the songs but never the less, you got great melodies on this album. Good work!!

Morley grey

Whatabout the drummer, Bob LaNave?? This fellow´s impression seems to been very much influenced by Mitch Mitchell.  A great drive and flamboyant style in drumming brings the technical skills at front row. The hit ratio and Dynamics are there but perhaps there is a bit to much “input” in some songs. Some restrain could be a friend but I do reckognize the youthful punsch in myself. The more the better… 🙂

So, if you´re into early ´70s Heavy/Prog/psychadelic rock with personal melody making, this album is right up your Alley. Due to low distribution there are not many original pressings left but there´s a silver lining up ahead. In 2009, reissues appeard with bonustracks added on both vinyl & CD, so there are no reason to worry. This album suites you best at a friendly gathering with both good food, beer and of course…Music. 🙂

Ich bin ein Berliner..

BLACKWATER PARK-DIRT BOX-

This German outfit originated from Berlin and fronted with an English vocalist. This gives a very exciting and powerdriven Hard/Prog/Kraut rock´n´roll album. This, their sole album, was released in 1971 and perhaps contain more of the common hardrock sound of the seventies than krautrock inspiration. This is like a soft donut, sugar sweet on the outside and even more creamy on the inside, jummy…. 🙂

The production is fair with a timestamp on the overall soundframe but that does not take away the high profile and attitude towards the songs. This a very good and catchy album with few or maybe not one lowwatermark. This is a very good german album with high Acclaim towards international status. Splendid!!

Blackwater park

Whatabout the drummer, Norbert Kagelmann?? This is very solid drummer with the gift of high Power drive and very good striking abilities. The technical skills are there with no fuzz and here you will find the all important presence into the songs hich gives Dynamics and personality. This is a very good drummer that fits the bill perfect!! An impressive recording!! Nice!

This album is one of those famous must have records and you will not be led astray with a purchase. Original presses have an insane pricetag but lucky for us there are reissues to be worned out at the turntable. As this album almost  never ever turn up at vinylfairs the best option is to go online for a Another great record. The best advice is to get a sixpack of beer to enjoy together with this splendid record. Cheers!

In the beginning..

SKID ROW-34 HOURS-

This Irish outfit first started to play together in 1969. As a major influence towards the Irish bands to come many of the so called rock stars would have a session in this outfit. This their second album , released in 1971, would contain one of the world´s most famous guitarist and of course I´m talking about Gary Moore. Joning the band at only sixteen he had a thing for Peter Green and his playing style and vice versa, Peter Green were deeply impressed by the young lad from Dublin. Everything interacts in some strange way and Everything has a beginning!

This album is timetypical in the sense of producing but has an futuristic style combo that mix Hard/Blues/Prog rock with familiar tendensies what would become the NWOBHM in the later part of the 70´s. The vocals are splendid and the guitar just flies away. The interaction between the drums and bass is avantgarde and at best, brutally honest. This is a good record in that sense.

Skid Row

Whatabout the drummer, Noel Bridgeman?? As the musicians didn´t have the same competition as the big brother´s from the UK this an avarage effort. The striking abilities are fine but there is a lack of shere force and determination. The technical skills are there but sometimes it is going to fast and to sloppy not to take notice. A shame because there are some good features buried in the songs. Nothing to get excited about though.

This is a milestone record for the fans of Gary Moore and Irish rock in all. Both Eric Bell and Phil Lynott did there time in this outfit and to me this is just that basic Learning Academy for bigger things to come. If you get the chills for early Hard/Blues/Prog rock Music this one´s for you. Great copies are out there but be prepared to pay handsomely for a good copy due to low distribution. There are worse records out there but don´t be surprised and prepare yourself before purchase because this one´s really special, in a good way!!

Obstacles on the way…

STEEPLECHASE-LADY BRIGHT-

This N.Y outfit was formed in 1970 and released their sole album the same year. A shortlived band with no whats so ever succés. The mix of both Hard/Prog/Psych/Folk Music got to be reckoned as a very fresh but odd album by 1970 though. Obstacles on the way and different perspectives ended this band the same year.

The production is timetypical with great presence in both vocals and interaction between the rhythmsection and keyboards.

The whirlwind direction of songs both blend terrific guitar-riffs and some “soul” seasoning attitude towards the input and perspective of the songs. There are no eartquake song that sticks out, and there are tendencies at the end of the album, to reduce speed and attitude. The album doesn´t hold on to the promising beginning but you can´t beat yourself up for that. The whole impression is still great.

Steeplechase

Whatabout the drummer, Joey “Joe” Forgione?? This chap does got both rhythm and drive! As a former drummer of the Soul Survivors this is good drumming 1-0-1. The striking abilities are fine with superb technical skills. The lack of “Heavy” impact disrupts the framework but there are some great things to Catch up on and bring back to the rehearsal room. This fellow knows what he´s doing and a pure pleasure in that sense. A very good job!! 🙂

If you are a fan of mixed styles of Hard/Prog/Psych/Folk Music with no whats so ever direction this is true contender. Great copies are out there for peanut Money and this album will only grow the more you spin it on your turntable. The mix of styles and openings brings great Dynamics into the album but this one is just for those already sucked in to the genre. Perhaps not the number one pick at the party but a great companion in the car on the that lonesome roadtrip…. 🙂

In absense of the witchmaster..

FRANK MARINO & MAHOGNY RUSH-LIVE-

As there are few of us mortal humans that do understand that if you got it, you don´t need to go look for it. The splendid guitarsound and playing style from Italian/canadian guitarist Frank Marino just leaves the question of a higher being answered….This is a gift from birth.

Just widely acclaimed during the 70´s the persistant guitarist took Hard/Blues/prog Music to an Another level and many just missed the train as it passed by. The eminent style and sound brings more than one thought back to The Great one, Jimi Hendrix but I do Believe the intention is coincidential. But in the absense of the Witchmaster this is just as good… This is guitarplaying at the highes level ever recorded on Terra Firma…Just jawdropping excellent!!!

This “live” recording is on the brink off implosion of Mahogny rush. Released in 1978 but that does not take away it´s larger than Life soundframe and songs performance. The vocals are great, the rhythmsection is just as good it could get and then you got this fabulous guitarwizard mind-fu*king your head…this is one of the top five live rock albums ever made, and probably ever will be recorded.

Frank Marino & Mahogny rush

Whatabout the drummer, Jimmy Ayoub?? If you got a guitarist as Frank Marino in your band you immediate know, you´re on second row. This does not take away the performance and “hands on” presence in the drumming on this recording. This is a very, very good drummer with a drive to die for. As the guitar flies away the rhythmsection just delivers the most hard driven erection a man could ever wish for. This is so good and even that the striking abilities are beyond top notch and the hit ratio together with the Dynamics  just leaves you with that lifelong wish that you could be there, instead of Mr. Ayoub. Mighty fine worldclass drumming!! 🙂

If you´re a sucker for guitardrenched Hard/Blues/prog rock this is as good as it ever will be. There are no flaws what so ever on this album and this got to be the most hard solved riddle of all. Why didn´t this leave Frank Marino and CO with a higher recognizion? This is one of the modern Worlds most puzzling food for thoughts.

Of course this is a must have album in your Collection. Very few albums couldn´t reach this standard as a studioalbum and this is a true companion when all other options are being drained. Great copies are out there for peanut prices so go out and grab yourself a bit of musichistory. Works as good with or without headphones but…you need some beer to chill you down as your emotions will overcook…. 🙂

Talk of the town..

SAVOY BROWN–STREET CORNER TALKING-

This outfit from Battersea South London UK released this, their 7th album in 1971. Perhaps the most perfected album by this outfit and the album that would get them to make notice in the great land in the west. Endless touring the States to promote their albums got them to be more recognized in the US and it was here they selled their albums. Fame and fortune beyond the common man eluded them and perhaps this was a consequence of constant change of line ups, but it never took away the passion for touring and making Music.

The production of this Blues/hard/Southern album is just as fresh today and the songs are up there with the best of the genre. The terrific guitar and perfect match vocals are a delicious treat for your ears. This is the guiding light for blues bands to come in the 70´s. A very good album.

Savoy Brown

Whatabout the drummer, Dave Bidwell??? This is a eminent impression of a fellow with passion for drumming and a sweet laidback style of hitting the toms. The striking abilities are great with soft spoken interaction between the drive and hitratio. Nothing to bring back to rehearsal room but there are a few tricks and perhaps most, a perfect level of striking delivery that does fits like a glove. The departure of  previous members just put a new fresh perspective into the songs. Just a splendid work!

This is just one of those albums you must have in your record Collection. As a bearer of Brittish blues with cool Southern seasoning, there are very few albums to compete with this one from the timeperiod. Great original copies are out there and both Reissues and CD´s are plenty for the buck. If you don´t have this album it is a good tip to search for this for the masterpiece at your next visit to the vinylfair and alone just for the coverart…

The ” must have beer” to go along as spinning the record at the turntable speaks for itself…Just enjoy.. 🙂

Be Bop a Lula….

BE BOP DELUXE-AXE VICTIM-

This Quartet from Wakefield West Yorkshire UK, released this their first album in 1974. It was a pretty good critical succés and fairly good sales for this straight forward album, mixing Glam/Prog/Rock on a great produced album.

The album got great songs involving both influences of Bowie, T-Rex and paving the road for NewWave bands to come. The almost perfect interaction between the vocals and guitars lifts this album up several notches and the rhythm section are just having a blast! This is an extraordinary, fun album to spin at the turntable. As there are no song that falls off the wagon, the only grade is to give a big thumbs up!! Terrific album!

Be Bop Deluxe

Whatabout the drummer, Nicholas Chatterton-Drew?? As everybody by this timeperiod,  would give their left arm for a musical career in the UK, the competition amongs musicians where on a very high level. As is in this case. This is a very good drummer with great striking abilities and a powerful ambience towards the songs. The hitratio together with the splendid Dynamics just leaves you with nothing more to ask for. Technical skills are there, lurkin beneath the well polished Surface and soundframe. This is a like fancy dinner with extra treatment and lapdance for desert as a surprise. All in!! Just fabulous!! :–)

This is a known album in the right circles and yet it is so unfamiliar. Great copies are out there and you should stumble upon this one at your local recordfair. If  the price feel´s right the just push the “purchase” button. Nothing can go wrong with this Classic album that very few people recognize. Very Good!! 🙂
